VQ Retro Mini Radio Review and Giveaway

Ive always been a big lover of music, I used to play my Cd's and listen to music on my headphones traveling around all the time. But since Lily has been born my CD player rarely goes on unless its her music and obviously when travelling I can't be wearing earphones. So music has definetly been missing from my life.

So I was delighted when I got the opportunity from VQ to review one of their Retro Mini Radios.

So here is a little bit about the Retro Mini's. Firstly, when they say Mini, its not as small as the word mini sounds. It stands at 224mm tall and 147mm wide. In my opinion its the perfect size. Doesn't take up to much room but also is big enough to be seen. This radio definetly needs to be seen as well as heard. With is sleek but sexy retro design it really does need to be displayed so you can see where the music is coming from. I also think the design is really cute. The little handle reminds me of a bag. I can picture carrying it along with me in summer time along with a picnic basket full of food.

The handle is also really good for easily transporting it from room to room. Most mums know that you are generally on the move. I used this radio one day when I was doing some cleaning. It really made the job a nicer job to do with music on and so I moved the radio from one room to another easily as I moved around from job to job. The handle is really sturdy and also can be folded down so its out of sight. Its attached with really nice silver fastenings which I think gives a real polished feel.

The radio is also really light weighing at 0.95kg, which also means its great to carry around with you.

The last thing I love about the design is the leather material it is wrapped in. It is of such good quality and really helps to give it that sleek look. VQ gave me a choice of colours and patterns and I decided to go with red. I have always been a red sort of girl. I find it such a sexy colour and its going be perfect for getting ready for those nights out when i'm putting on my red lip stick and about to go out with my little red bag. It also matches our kitchen as we are starting to go with a red theme for that to. But if red isn't your colour then you have another 20 colours and patterns to choose from. Including some Emma Bridgewater designs.

The next part of the radio I want to talk about is the controls. The controls are all neatly laid out on the front of the radio with a display that tells you the time and what radio channel you are on. You press the middle button to turn the radio on. When first using it it does some sort of magic thing where it suddenly sinks with the world and tells you the time and starts playing a music station to you. There is probably a definite more technical term to what it does but its so quick and automatic that it seems magic to me.
You can then press the arrows to scroll through the different radio stations and it only took me 2 presses of it and I was at a station I was happy with. You then have the volume control and a mute button. The volume is really easy to control, with the button for + to make it louder and the button for - to make it quieter. There is also a preset button so you can save your favourite stations and go back to them. Then there is the Menu button, here you can personalise your sound using all the custom controls and can change things like the bass or treble. There is also a button for connecting to your bluetooth device. I don't have any music on my phone so not tried this one out yet. You can also set the radio to act as a alarm clock, this would be perfect for my partner as his alarms generally don't always get him out of bed. I also think its great to be able to wake up and start listening to the radio in the morning. A nice tuneful song can definetly be a nicer thing to wake up to than a beep beep sound.

I would say that the controls are relatively easy to use, but for some things I did have to have a little read through the quick start guide for some help.

It wouldn't be much of a radio review if I didn't talk about the sound. The radio is engineered with real wood construction to the single 5W Ultra Wide premium full range speaker. For a radio with one speaker it really does sound amazing. The music you hear is clear and can go quite loud with the volume control. I was very impressed at how good it sounded. It sounded so good and clear that I could actually hear it from the next room and tell what the song was.

The radio features DAB, DAB+ and FM radio reception meaning that you have a huge choice of stations to listen to.

You can also use the radio at home on the go as you can switch between it being plugged in to your mains or just pop 4 batteries into the back to be able to take it anywhere you like. You can also connect headphones for those times you don't want to share your VQ music experience with anyone else.

The Retro Mini is £59.99 and you can buy them from the VQ website
