I used to work in a nursery and so the amount of different rhymes we used to sing was endless. We have all heard Twinkle Twinkle and If you Happy and you know it, over a thousand time and if you have children then have probably also sung it the same amount of times. So I thought I would write out a few more here for you to sing.
1. Tiny Turtle Song
I had a Tiny Turtle,
His name was Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub,
To see if he could swim,
He drank up all the water,
He ate up all the soap,
And now he's gone to bed,
With a bubble in his throat.
Bubble, Bubble, BUBBLE, POP
(For this part you make a bubble shape with your hands and make it get bigger and bigger until POP you clap your hands)
2. Down in the Jungle
Down in the Jungle where nobody goes,
theres a great big (let child choose animal) Lion washing his clothes,
With a Rubba Dub here, (rub your hands toggether)
And a Rubba Dub there,
Thats the way he washes his clothes.
With a Hi, Ti, Boogie Woogie WoogieWith a Hi, Ti, Boogie Woogie Woogie
With a Hi, Ti, Boogie Woogie Woogie
Thats the way he washes his clothes.
(for the last part you put a arm in the air for Hi, a Arm in the air for Ti, and then put them down and roll them around each other for the Boogie Woogie part)
Repeat over and over and over again with a different animal.
3. The Picture Book
Come and take a look
at my picture book
and see all the pictures inside
theres a cat and a dog
and a little green frog
and a pony to take us for a ride
When I close my book
On the cover look
theres a big fat chicken in a nest
and on the back theres a goat
with a white fluffy coat
and I don't know which one I like the best
4. House of the bears
When goldilocks went to the house of the bears
Oh what did her blue eyes see
A bowl that was big,
A bowl that was small,
And a bowl that was tiny and that was all,
She counted them 1, 2, 3
When goldilocks went to the house of the bears
Oh what did her blue eyes see
A chair that was big,
A chair that was small,
And a chair that was tiny and that was all,
She counted them 1, 2, 3
When goldilocks went to the house of the bears
Oh what did her blue eyes see
A bed that was big,
A bed that was small,
And a bed that was tiny and that was all,
She counted them 1, 2, 3
When goldilocks went to the house of the bears
Oh what did her blue eyes see
A bear that was big,
A bear that was small
And a bear that was tiny and that was all
she counted them 1, 2, 3
This one has no actions but I always loved gently rocking Lily in my arms and singing this one softly to her.
5. Five Little Men in a Flying Saucer
Five little men in a flying saucer flew around the world one day
They looked left and right but they didn't like the sight
So one man flew away..
Four little men in a flying saucer flew around the world one day
They looked left and right but they didn't like the sight
So one man flew away..
Three little men in a flying saucer flew around the world one day
They looked left and right but they didn't like the sight
So one man flew away..
Two little men in a flying saucer flew around the world one day
They looked left and right but they didn't like the sight So one man flew away..
One little man in a flying saucer flew around the world one day
He looked left and right but He didn't like the sight So that man flew away..
Some of these songs I have heard people sing slightly different versions so I do apologise if you attend a baby group and start singing the wrong words.

ReplyDeleteI've heard all except the picture book song. Going to mum and baby groups and working in nurseries has really expanded my repertoire. It's also interesting to see the differences in American and British nursery rhymes and songs.
ReplyDeleteGuess what my nephew has started to learn at nursery
ReplyDeleteDOWN IN THE JUNGLE -couldn't believe it when he started singing it to me
