A month ago Lily was sent some books from Miles Kelly for her to read that would help her with her learning of words and other things. These were :-
My Book of Words
My Book of Animals
My Book of Letters
My Book of Numbers
We were really happy to receive these books from Miles Kelly as one thing we have started working on is our words. The Animal book is great also to help Lily start to know her animals. Lily may not be quite ready to learn her numbers and letters but its never to early in my opinion to be looking at them and these books are great for that. The next few years for Lily is going to be where she starts to improve on these subjects and so I can see us using these books for a decent amount of time.
As you can see from the front covers, they are beautifully illustrated and really colourful which drew Lily to take interest in the books and want to look inside. These books are such good quality and the titles and pictures on the front cover even have sparkles on.
So lets start by looking at the book we have so far used the most.
My Book of Words.
The book shows lots of different scenes or subjects where there would be lots of different things to see. For example a Park, a Garden, the Beach. Or subjects like In the Family, Things that Go and Clothes. With each scene or subject there are words for the things you can see. For example Swing, Ball, Bucket. Daddy, Car, Socks. These things are all every day things that children will recognise and be around on a daily basis.
Lily loves to point at the different objects and ask what they are, she usually does this numerous times with each object and so the word gets repeated over and over again and the repetition is what will help her learn. Lily will choose objects she is has seen a lot before as she is eager to learn what they are. She really likes the Ball, Car, Cat and Teddy. As Lily gets older there are questions at the bottom of each page that I can ask for her to answer.
At the back of the book there is a section with pictures and the challenge is to go back through the book and find these items. If I open the page to where the teddy is as ask her where the teddy is she will point to it showing she is learning.
The next book is My Book of Animals.
I think Lily will do really well with this book as she has already started learning them and knows a Fish and a Cat when she see's one.
The Book is set out with different types of animals on each page. For example for on the seashore you have images of things like a Crab, a Gull, and a Lobster. In the desert you have a Camel, a Lizard and a Scorpion. For Pets you have pictures of a Fish, a Cat, a Rabbit.

There are also little bits of information about the animals you can see to and just like the last book it has questions at the bottom of each page that can be for older children to answer. The book has the same challenge as the word book at the back with being asked to find the objects throughout the book.
The next book is My book of Letters.
The book is set out so nicely with the letter big and colourful in the corner and images of lots of different things that start with that letter around the page. Though Lily is to young to start to learn letters this is great for her to learn new words and eventually learn that that word starts with the letter that she can see in the corner.
At the bottom of the pages it has the whole alphabet and the letters you are looking at are coloured in so you can see where they are placed in the alphabet. Again at the end of the book you can look back and search for the objects it is asking for.
The last book is My book of Numbers.
The book shows different scenes for example a Farm, a Pond, a Bedroom. In the corner of the scene it will say a number and a object. For example 1 Comfy Bed, 13 splashing fish. Then at the bottom of the pages there are objects to find in the scene for example 1 Clock, 5 Lily Pads, 3 Cows. Although Lily isn't quite ready to start learning her numbers, its a great book to be able to point to the pictures together and count them as we do.
Just like the other books at the end you look back through the book and find the objects.
I am really impressed with how much these books have to offer to encourage your children to enjoy learning. At £5.99 each they are definitely money well spent when it comes to helping your child's education and at the same time making it fun.
We give the books a Thumbs up to
- How good the quality of the books are.
- How much there is to do inside the books.
- How fun the books are.
- How they help us learn.
- How reasonably priced they are.
